Science Week

Dd made a Parthenon this week...don't ask what the columns are made out of!  We have been collecting those 'tubes' for over a year!

Our "kinder-kids" co-op class made these owls two weeks ago, and I brought one of the starters home for Dd to do herself.  The starter was just two tubes of toilet paper glued together, then covered in cotton balls.  Then Dd mixed some glue with water and brushed the glue all over the cotton ball 'body'.  Then she added layers of blue tissue paper over the whole body; starting from the feet and working up to the head.  She added her own design of construction paper "ears" and "wings".  She used a hot glue gun to attach the eyes (buttons), whereas in our class we used a glue stick to attach the eyes and beak.  Oh--and little feet out of cardstock!

Hello Friends!  Science and Character Training Week  We were finally ready to start the next level up in our Apologia Science.  Dd is still working on the Botany Apologia book, but I decided to go ahead and start the General Science book to do together.  I've decided I really need to do a better job arranging our focus to match what Dd wants to do as a career. For the past two years, Dd has said that she wants to be a surgeon, and that means less focus on history and more on science and math.  So, I am going to really make a big effort to gear more towards Science.

We had some problems with attitude this week.  And I should state that the loss of Smedley (our wonderful seventeen year old kitty), has effected each of us in different ways.  I cried and was 'empty', but Dd dealt with it with more in emotional fluxes.  So, we took this week a little easier in our lessons, and took out all texting, computer, internet, "screen time" for Dd--except for a family movie night on Friday and Saturday.  It amazes me how cutting out any screen time helps out all of our interactions.  We ended the week with all our hearts a little bit better due to our trip to the dog food store.

We went to Chow Hound to pick up some dog food on Tuesday, and Dd was looking at the kitties while I paid. The kitties were from the Humane Society.  We left, were driving away as we talked to Pappa on the phone about the one kitty that Dd really loved. He was fine with us getting a kitty, if my heart was ready for a new cat...which it totally wasn't!  But, Dd really had her heart set on the kitty.  So, we went back to the store and asked how to adopt her.  They said we could fill out the paperwork, but it would take a week before our application would be approved.  We went home and shortly received a phone call from the Humane Society, for our phone interview.  The woman who interviewed us said we were adopted and could go back to the store and pick up the kitty!  Same day!  So, we did!  We still don't have a name for her, but Dd is doing a great job taking care of her.

We had our Band & Choir one day this week.

We had our LINK Co-op another day this week.  We have three more weeks of co-op classes, then our life with go back to being a bit more manageable.  We officially gave our notice that we won't be doing the co-op classes during the winter session.  We will think about perhaps doing them again in the fall next year.

House Updates:
Dh has been working on the sink, adding new tubes to the pipes to stop it from leaking over our cabinet...and basement.  This was a big job that took many days of trial and error.

The clear tube is the new one to fix the problem.

Also this week, Dd decide to do some electrical work in her bathroom, and praise the Lord she didn't electrocute herself!  Dh had to redo her work and fix the problems that happened.

Dh has been sanding and muding the basement / rec room:

For me---I'm still unpacking, unpacking, unpacking!  I've got *most* of the boxes in the garage and have started getting boxes from the out-building.  I need to move my artwork to the basement, which is in the garage right now because we have mice getting into our garage and have NOT been able to figure out how they are getting in ....YET!

MEET AGNES:

Dd has adopted a 4 month old kitten from the Humane Society.  Dd really loves her a lot!  Of course, that means that the kitty loves Dh a lot and keeps going to his lap to nap!
