The ROMANS
Dh made Dd a birthday cake!

Another week learning about the Romans; and enjoying it.  We finished Eagle of the Ninth last week, and miss reading the book---I got attached to the characters!  But, we still had Vinegar Boy and Augustus Caesar's World (ACW) continuing from last week to this week, so we didn't lose all our people.  We finished Vinegar Boy this week, but ACW isn't going fast, so we will be reading that for a while.  ACW is very informative, but not a fast read.
She made it to put her nail polish stuff in it for the "Girls Night"/ nail party

This was a migraine week for me, so to be honest I was glad for the progress we did make since I felt so 'ugh'.  The new medicine helps the migraines not go all the way to a "10", but I needed to lay down almost every day this week, which really cut into our progress.  Last week I did my workouts and had such energy; and this week--NO workouts and just hanging on.  We didn't get back to the Butterfly exhibit, but did make it to the library, grocery shopping, and a "Girls Night" for Dd and I at the nice family we met 3 weeks ago, on Friday.  Dd made 2 batches of blueberry muffins to take to the party, which were quickly gobbled up!  I was glad I felt good enough to drive and take her to that.

Our mini-updates:
Our house in Indiana--a bid came in, to buy it in JULY, or sooner if their house sells.  We have had a good amount of "showings" the past few weeks, so we are hopeful that something will come our way soon.  We still covet prayers on our house selling quickly---I'd love to find our new home soon and get out of this tiny apartment.

Snails--so funny, we bought two snails and the next thing you know we have 50 babies scurrying up and down our tiny plastic, one gallon tank!  We own a large glass aquarium, but are hoping to not use up our limited space on tanks!  I guess it will depend on how fast snails grow!  They laid their FOURTH egg case this week...oh my, oh my!

When we moved to our apartment, we only had enough room for two large bookshelves in our 'dining room' (we use it as our library/lessons room), so I brought what we needed to finish Core F, and the next core--Core G.  I *thought* we would sell our home so quickly, so I didn't bring very many books except for the specific books Sonlight assigned, and the shelves I had on the basic topics of Ancient Egypt, Greeks, Romans, Renaissance, Middle Ages...but not many of the paperbacks set in those time periods.  It is frustrating b/c I know I own specific books that would be perfect now, and in the next few weeks; but they are not accessible to me right now.

Dh's job is still going very well for him.  He has been working until 7 or 8 o'clock each day, and the long hours seems to be starting to tire him out.  He looks tired!  They are in the middle of a busy spell, that doesn't end until May 1st, but then another assignment will be coming up then too.  But, his co-workers are nice, respectful, and enjoy his wonderful sense of humor.

Now onto our lessons:
Bible:
We are still working on Card 82, which is on Ezekiel 37, but we are using this card to study most of the book of Ezekiel.

Chapter 31: The Mauryan Empire of India (321-233 BC)

The most famous Mauryan emperor was Asoka.  The once very violent man changed his ways and became kind and merciful- a follower of the Buddha.  His three favorite traits were: honesty, truthfulness, and mercy.  Asoka followed the teachings, which were written down in the Mahayana Tripitaka, the most famous of which are called the Jakata Tales.  These stories told the ancient people in India how to live.  The key thoughts are: goodness, mercy, friendship, patience, and honesty.  After Asoka died the Mauryan empire began to decline.

This is a really good book, and I highly recommend it.  It really touches you deeply.  The author did such a thorough job describing Jesus on the cross and what it might have been like.  The writing made these events become more imaginable.

Lesson 27 A-E (half of each page, plus reworking those problems)
We were suppose to find the volume for pyramid and cones, the lesson demonstrations (DVD) didn't really do a great job, so we had to work for a while to figure out this lesson.  So we worked all week on getting the pyramids completely understood, and next week we will do the cones.

Dd crocheted this shawl this week
Busy Hands:
Two batches of blueberry muffins,
Indian Curry Rice,
Dd made a big crocheted shawl, out of two shades of gray, it took a few days of diligent work; but she did finish it!

She made shortbread cookies, but tweaked the recipe to add cocoa in, and then made a chocolate sauce to pipe on top, and powdered sugar on top of that.
Dd made this crocheted bag this week.  Her own design.

Our SOTW (Story of the World) Activity book had a recipe for "Indian Curried Rice" that she made.  It turned out really well!
