Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan July 2017

Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan
July 2017

We left the little cabin to sight see on Saturday---we had a great time!

This is generally what the woods look like in the area---LOTS of ferns and white Birch trees.  The soil is mostly sand.  I lost count of how many Monarch Butterflies we saw this day!!!  10-20?  I've never seen so much Milkweed in a state before Michigan---they have it growing like crazy everywhere.  They will even mow around it to not harm it in commercial mowing areas.

SO many people parked and climbed up the sand to get a great view.  Sophie would never have been up for that much of a hike, so we didn't do it.

Dd wearing one of my old camp t-shirts--that shirt is years older than her!  I'm glad she likes it!

They charged $15.00 to drive around and see the sights, which we did!  It was nice to see the view, but each viewing spot was packed with tourists!!

Eventually, we found a off-road drive that lead out to the beach.  We had a big section all to ourselves - it was really lovely!

Sophie actually learned to swim for the FIRST TIME!  Once she got the hang of swimming she wouldn't stay on shore, but kept doing laps out to us, and right back to the shore, then back to us again!!  She wouldn't stay in deep water very long, probably due to the waves splashing her and getting water in her ear...which she did not like!

Sophie had a great day!

See how much beach we had to ourselves?  It was about the length of privacy on the other side of us too.

What a beautiful area!

Ionia Free Fair July 2017

Ionia Free Fair
July 2017

Dh and I went to the Ionia Free Fair---Dd wasn't feeling good, so it turned out to be a very rare 'date night!'

Eggland was the chicken building.  I took so many pictures of chickens, but don't think you all want to see all of them!  I've just put in two to share!

My Dd loves anything with owls on it, so I tried to take a few pictures of things I saw that I knew she would love to try.

This is Cupcake, she belongs to our good friend, Joy.  This was the first time Joy showed a calf at a 4H show and she did really well on getting high ribbons!  Plus, Cupcake loved to be petted and was so sweet!!!

I'd never seen rabbits nurse before...oh my! those little guys were fierce...poor momma!

It was fun to see NEW RIDES that I'd never seen before!  Not that I would ever get on one again -- I saw a worker get hit by the swings that we were riding on and it was bad enough to end all my ride adventures for the future.

Last but not least....we enjoyed these very small elephant ears!  I think they were $7.00 each for a few bites, they use to be bigger than the plate...not anymore!
