One Warm Day in Winter

Snow is falling already...but we had one day to spend outside; and we did spend it outside!  Dd playing basketball; Dh cleaning the garage and working with his tools--cutting wood, and building shelves for the walls...and I picked up trash from around our yard; blown in from who knows where, filled bird seed containers, bird baths, and general puttering in the yard.  Instead of my normal SNOWY pictures; here are a few pictures of GRASS!

Dd worked on her FORT, and found her bucket, with the sticks and corn husks still in it...you can see what became of it!  Sophie, our dog, wanted to play with the chunk of ice; but had to admit it was TOO BIG for even her!

Our garden....FULL of rabbit droppings!

Our compost pile must have a family of mice still living in it.  I've seen little holes in it, and this little collection looks suspicious!!

Sophie, did find a good stick that was her size!  We did have a good romp chasing after her with it, and got it broken in two before all was done!  She needed a good play outside just as much as we did.

See all the trash on the table that I found around the outside of our fence, and in our garden---the wind blows it up against our fence every few weeks.

The Ferrel cat that allows me to feed it, that only occasionally tries to hit me!  What a cat.  Don't think this is a soft, cuddly fellow....for he is NOT.  He is very bossy, and dominant.

Benjamin Harrison Field Trip-in progress

Benjamin Harrison Field Trip

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Harrison

Our 23rd President, Benjamin Harrison.  He was a Brigadier General in the Civil War--on the Union side.

This is a painting of Harrison, done right after his service in the Civil War.

Benjamin Harrison was married twice; this is his first wife; Caroline.  She was an artist, and painted very well.  The house if FULL of her watercolors and paintings.  She painted BIRDS and FLOWERS as her subject matter...and I found them very appealing.  She even painted china--painted an assortment of birds on china.  His second wife, was Caroline's niece, was 25 years younger than BH!!! and he was around 64 yrs old when she had children with him.  His previous daughter was not happy with his second marriage---very upset...

BH's great grandfather signed the Declaration of Independence.  He comes from a long line of prominent men.

I did find a whole row of Dickens works in the cabinet!  Such good works were in the collection.

I forget if there were 3 or 4 levels/stories to this house; but it was 10,000 square feet!!!

This is another painting of Caroline Harrison--I really liked her (obviously!).

This picture was from Caroline's room--this was one of her many flower paintings in the house.
