   Yesterday was the Indiana State Homeschool Convention---not sure if that should be all capitals or not, but it just made me so happy that I went with it!  Jill Everly asked me to help out in the booth this year, after I was so excited meeting her last year.  Truth be told, every year when I get to go to the hs convention, I go straight to the SL booth FIRST! and then I feel like 'okay, now I can go wander around.'   I had a great time chatting with all the people about books and using the IG...I had to keep stopping myself from saying "IG" b/c they didn't know what "IG" meant! "Instructors Guide"..... The people that most often stopped to ask questions were people that were brand new and wanted 1:1 time going over HOW to use the "Instructors Guide", and how to add in Language Arts!  Isn't that funny---Language Arts was the most prominent question.  

Also, Catbrown/Cathy from the SL forum: World History chat came by for me to meet her!  It was great getting to put a face with her name.  We didn't get to say too much to each other, but we did get to finally meet!  She was so nice!

 

 I had to purchase this years Lamplighter books at the convention, they didn't have one of the books I wanted, so I ordered it, and they will send it to me for a small charge.  I also will receive an audio; we really love their audio books!

As far as our activities this week, Dd went with me to the doctor's office one day (much needed migraine consultation), and we have a LOVELY visit over at the "L" family's house on another day.  Dd gets to play with the "L" boys, and I get to have a much needed tea party and chat!  The Lord has so richly blessed me with such a good friend!  So thankful for our occasional tea parties--2 homeschool mom's sitting, chatting, drinking tea and having such a lovely, lovely time.  I can't tell you all how many YEARS I've longed for a friend to do that with on a consistent basis!  What a priceless gift!  I brought my knitting project, but got so wrapped up talking that I forgot to knit!

This week has been the Week of Crocheting for Dd...I can't post all the pictures of her work, b/c 2 things are going to be gifts!  But, she has really got 'hog wild' on the crocheting.  I  had bought some used crocheting instructional books, and she can actually understand the directions!!! and has made some of the things!  

 

Our lessons went well, I especially enjoyed our Apologia: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day book this week on "rays" (Lesson 7).  Rays are simply fascinating and lovely creatures.  The sharks were also very interesting too.  I'm still trying to figure out how much to have Dd WRITE in her notebooking journal for this subject.  I was having her write too much, and then I was having her write too little, and I still haven't found the 'right' amount (for us).  I know I am remembering the material better than she is...and that isn't a good sign, now, is it!  I find myself telling Dh all the interesting details about how long a Manta Ray is---22 feet--where is swims in the ocean--out in the deep part--etc. etc. and Dd doesn't seem to be nearly as excitable about these details as I am!  But, I think that may be our personality differences too---I get "excited" about science and show it, where she is excited too, but she just doesn't SHOW it...her excitement is more 'under the surface' (like her Pappa)!!

Teresa of Calcutta: completed (I've heard someone, just one person say this book COULD be skipped, but I want to really make sure I publicly say how GREAT I thought this book was!  Sure, the writing isn't as exciting as Jules Vern; but the author did such a good job describing Mother Teresa!  I never really understood her concept of treating all the people she helped b/c in her mind she invisioned them all to be Jesus...Her 'plan' was to follow this biblical principle below:

The smaller shield on the left is Dd's old shield, the shield on the right is her NEW one, that she made this week.  She is MUCH happier with this 'new and improved' model.  She used an old grill as a base to secure the cardboard and stabilize it.  She used my compass to make a better star too.

Dd made a sign out of particle board, crochet yarn, and acrylic paint this week.  She printed a Pegasus and made a stencil, she did this this week too.

Activities:
LOTS of Crocheting!
She made a strawberry cake, and homemade granola in the kitchen.  She has spent hours outside "training" our dog to do tricks....(poor dog!)  This has been a mature week, she totally cleaned her room (without me asking), and did the dishes - all on her own accord.  What a surprise.



 She made 5 "balls" --sort of like a Hacky-Sack ball, minus the beans....  The greenish, yellow thing with the button is her ipod nano case that she made for it.
