Week 12 “A”
(40th week on Core G)
June 1-5, 2015

This was a fun week!  It started out bad, but ended on a good note.  This was my ‘migraine week’, and we were both not feeling very motivated for part of the week.  But, luckily the pool in our apartment complex FINALLY opened and we got to go swimming!  Yay!  We also made it out to two parks this week.  On Thursday we went to HUFF PARK; it is the ‘wetlands park’ that we have gone to quite a few times.  Then on Friday we went to KIRK PARK; which is the great one on Lake Michigan.  Dd got in the water, but it was in the 50’s and way too cold for me!  I know “50’s” sounds warm, but it must have been colder at the beach than at our apartment!  Brrrr.

Our updates – We signed forms to remove our second realtor from our process, and signed new forms for our third realtor to come on board.  So, the family that had signed a “First Rights of Refusal” with us are no longer in an agreement with us anymore.  When we canceled our contract with our previous realtor, that canceled the agreement.  That family has also not been able to sell their house, and so, can’t buy our house!  We are praying for SOMEBODY to buy our house!  We will be moving into our new home sometime at the end of this month!  Our loan has been approved; not for the same rate we had on our house in Indiana (unfortunately) but, it will have to do.
Busy Hands!

Like Moses, who lead the Israelite's away from slavery, Ezra
brought the Hebrews out of captivity.  They had been captive in Babylon for 70 years.   King Cyrus told them to go back to their homeland.  He gave them back much of the treasures that had been taken from the temple that King Solomon had built.  Ezra' story is very similar to Moses.  Ezra was a real scholar of the law, and teaching was part of who he was.

Adara by Beatrice Gormley
Rainbow Resource warns readers there is some ‘rough language’ in this book.  I only remember one time that I thought I was glad I was reading this aloud, and could skip those few words that didn’t fit in with the rest of the book.  Besides that, I thought this was a really interesting take on the bible story about Naaman and the prophet Elisha.  Adara gets taken captive and sold to a slave trader.  Then General Naaman’s wife takes Adara as her husbands reward for a successful battle at Ramoth-Gilead.  At first Adara hopes that her successful father will come rescue her, but that never happens as she hoped it would.  When a friend of her father comes see if it is Adara with General Naaman’s family, and only offers ½ price for her return; Adara realizes she isn’t valued within her own family and acts like she isn’t her fathers’ child after all (to stay a slave).  Then the Lord uses her to share the good news, and many stories about the prophet Elisha that she had heard growing up.  Eventually, General Naaman gets white spots on his skin and his hair is falling out and he gets desperate enough to listen to his slave girl, Adara, as she tells of the miraculous ways of Elisha—the the follower of Yahweh.  Sometimes I am ‘so-so’ about fictional bible stories being played out—but, personally, I found this book well done.

This is a fictionalized telling of the story of Naaman and Elisha, found in Kings II, Chapter 5
