Children's Museum - May 10, 2012

Children's Museum:

We are hitting the CM again before the p.s. kids take it over for the summer!

Can you see the momma and baby dinosaur coming into the Children's Museum building?

Today's Science Lab project was "Trait Trinkets" We made bracelets color based on our physical traits.  Dd and I both matched up perfectly.  We looked at Dominant and Recessive traits like "hitchhikers thumb", dimples, curly or flat hair, chin cliff, etc.  Fun project!

These are the beads to make our bracelets

Here is Dd's bracelet

This is an example of a glove with seeds in it; like the one we did last week--but this one is farther along than ours is.

The Power of Children: Making a Difference exhibit.  I don't think I've shown any pictures of this particular part of the CM.

This fantastic exhibit focuses on three different children.  Ryan White lived in Indiana; so his whole bedroom is included in his area.  Next time I will try to get more pictures on Ryan and Ruby.  We saw 2 wonderful live performances on Ruby and Anne by actors during our visit.

Activities:
Thursday, May 10th we went to the Children's Museum.  There is a post with the pictures seperate from this weeks entry.  We had a great time.  Dd got an ice cream (waffle cone) at the CM to celebrate her finishing up on Core 3/D. At the Science Lab we did an experiment on "Trait Trinkets" which we made a bracelet on our traits.  For example, if you had curly hair you put 3 shiny red beads on your wire-but if you had straight hair you put 3 orange beads on.  We also went to the Water Works section, the carosel, the "Power of Children" exhibit, the "Treasures of the Earth" exhibit.  The new thing was that at the Power of Children exhibit they had live actors do a performance that taught about the life of that child.  We saw one show on Ruby Bridges and another on Anne Franke.  That was very, very well done!

Friday night was our LHE "Year End Program" at Westlake Church of God.  It was a very good time!  We were there until 9:44pm!

Saturday we worked up our garden and planted.  It was a real mess of weeds.  Dd did a great job helping.  She was a great help in sifting through the dirt.  Dh made a big screen to sift the dirt and Dd helped with that especially.  She rescued many worms and helped them get relocated without trauma.  Then She helped make the box beds out of cardboard.  She planted the seeds nicely in their rows and did all the watering.  We planted 10 different tomato plants and the seeds and a few other things.  I will post some pictures of the garden so you can see before and after pix.

Sometimes what is left on the dry-erase board at the end of the week does a good job of surmising what we worked on during the week.  The references to music and obligate vs. carnivores is actually from LOF!
