Week 2"C"
Sept. 29th-Oct 3rd, 2014
(Sixth Week on Core G)
After going to the ER last Sunday,
and still suffering from my migraine on Monday (but much better than the day
before), we did the best we could on our lessons. Tuesday was my best day of the week, and a reprieve
from my migraine for 24 hours. Wednesday
and Thursday were ‘okay’; and I was so mentally exhausted on Friday that I took
the whole day off from lessons. Dd went
ahead and did some of our lessons by herself.
Saturday was finally my first day back to being ME again! Praising the Lord that this migraine phase has
come to an end!!!
This was not a ‘keyboarding week’,
but a craft week for both of us. Dd went
from project to project this week---creating lovely things each day. She watched a video online that taught her
how to make crocheted hearts, and ended up making a chain of hearts. I will put pictures of her projects in this
post, and also put some on the “Busy Hands” post right after this entry.

I started my Christmas projects on
Saturday!!! Dd and I went to the store:
Tuesday Morning and found some supplies on sale, which gave me the materials
for the idea I had brewing. I had bought
a cute little chipmunk stuffed animal last year with the intention of making my
two nephews stuffed animals. We found a
light blue and a dark blue fleece material for a decent price—just what I
needed to get going! I am having a blast
figuring out how to duplicate the stuffed animal.
At Tuesday Morning we also found a mini
hot glue gun to buy. What is funny is
that I already own THREE hot glue guns…but, they are in a box somewhere!!! Dd was so excited that she spent hours and
hours at the table playing with the hot glue gun, figuring out what she could
with it! I am thinking about getting her
a soldering kit; I bet she would really enjoy learning how to do that. I’d been waiting for her to get a bit older
and believe she is ready. She did a
great job being careful with the glue gun.

Dh’s job is going better this
week. He has worked 14 days straight, as
of today—and has another five days to go until next Saturday. He doesn’t know if he will have to work then
or not. But, he is working a LOT of
hours!!! He has to be at work tomorrow
at 5AM! Even though he is working so
many hours, he is really happy to be at this new job. It seems like he has friends there now—and is
a part of a TEAM. He doesn’t have to be
alone fighting against things, but part of a team. I am so glad he is doing so well—hoping that
Dd and I can adjust better soon. She and
I aren’t doing nearly as well as he is; but are praying for things to get
better for us two.

Our house in Indiana is still very
much “for sale”, but we haven’t had any viewings in about a week. The last family that came said they wanted a
different floor plan.
Well, that is our LIFE updates – now for
our lessons! We are still knee-deep in
our study of Ancient Egypt. This week we
also read a children’s adaptation of The Epic of Gilgamesh, called Gilgamesh,
the Hero. It was a really good book,
though I was a bit worried in the beginning when Gilgamesh was seduced…I was
afraid I should have pre-read the book!!!!
But, it didn’t get “R” rated after all!
Phew! I had read the book back in
college, and didn’t remember that part!
The ending was really special and touching. I won’t spoil it, but as a parent it really
touched my heart.

Christie, my SL friend, had sent us
some books to read while doing our Ancients study. We got into some of those books this week: Miriam by Beatrice Gormley and the
Landmark book- The Pharaohs of Ancient
Egypt, and Tirzah by Lucile

We are still reading “OUR” books, and
will have another week doing “Week Two”.
I’m not sure if we will move on to Week Three after this or if we will
continue adding our books in. I have a
LOT of books about this time period and want to make sure we cover all the
basics and really get deep. Since we
have completed all the Sonlight assignments for Week Two has freed up some of our
time, so we have been able to do a little extra Science this week!!!! Yay!
My little focus for this week
(regarding Science) was to learn about Igneous Rocks! Which we did, and I will be specific in our
science section, below. I ordered three
rock sets from Rainbow Resource for us to look at with our stereo microscope; and
we are!

Amazon synopsis:
Tirzah's people, the Israelites, have been in

One night, when the plague of death strikes down Pharaoh's own son, he allows the Israelites to flee on foot, only to pursue them with horses and chariots. He believes he will have them trapped between the mountains and the sea, but God miraculously delivers them. The Israelites celebrate with a song of hope and victory. Tirzah befriends a young Egyptian girl who has fled with them, even though others treat her badly. In spite of hardship and disappointment, Tirzah and her family keep trusting Yahweh to carry them through.

The “growing up” moment of the week:
I was in the kitchen doing dishes,
and she came in and told me to go lie down and she would do the dishes…she then
informed me I didn’t look so good and should rest. What makes this special is that doing dishes
is her LEAST favorite chore to do! She
would happily exchange dish duty with cleaning a toilet! So, I was really impressed with her kindness
and thoughtfulness.
