Art Book Recommendation July 2013
Amazon says: "How many art styles can you name? Can you tell the difference between
Naturalism and Realism? How about Cubism and Impressionism? In this
book, art lover Bob Raczka clearly explains the basics of fourteen
different art styles, spanning the 1430s to the 1970s. He also
introduces such stylish artists as Jan van Eyck, Joseph Turner and Juan
Gris. So get ready to "brush up" on your sense of style!"
While at the Indiana Homeschool convention, I spotted this book at the Rainbow Resourse booth and immedietly wrote it down to look it up when I got home. The author, Bob Raczka takes a chronological tour through history exploring:
Naturalism, Mannerism, Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Realism,
Impressionism, Pointillism, Fauvism, Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism,
Abstract Expressionism, Op Art, and Photo Realism.
Generally, I like to look up a book before I buy it to avoid buyers remorse or to see if perhaps my library may have it already. Well, my library did NOT have it--but they did ILL (inter-library loan) it for me!! And even my husband was totally interested in this book, so much that it turned into a family RA. I really liked how the author simplified the material and put it into chronological order for us, but not so spread out that you lose track! I really liked this book. I'm not sure we are going to buy this book; but I really may--or since we can ILL it 2-3 times a year as a great review book---and who knows, perhaps my library will soon just go ahead and buy it for us! We will definitely be reading this book again and again to make sure this info gets into Dd's long term memory. It is nice to see a book that I really liked and feel confident to recommend as a good book to suggest you to see if your library has--or if your library can ILL for your family to see too!
