August 5-9th 2013 Core E Week 33

August 5-9th 2013
 Core E
Week 33

We had a great week---Giz and Grampy came up to visit so we could take Grampy with us to the Indiana State Fair again with us.  Giz hasn't been doing so great with walking; so she can't go and will stay home and babysit our dog and her dog.

Chelle--didn't you ask what an Elephant Ear was?   Elephant ears are white dough that is pulled in a oval, kind of a wobbly pizza shape, 5-6 inches perimeter, and then deep fried, and then topped with some sugar and cinnamon---and then you eat it!  Yummy!  Once a year though!  It must be 2,000 calories! I wish I would have taken a picture to show you!

The Giving Tree-food pantry
Thursday night, Dd asked one of her friends to work with us at our church's food pantry--The Giving Tree---we had such an amazing woman come.  She really needed help, and I was so glad we were there to help.  It was so great to be God's hands and offer help to someone at the right time and the right place and let her know how much God loves her---just when she really needed to hear it the most....I was so blessed to be of use.  I'm glad Dd was there to be apart of that.

Let's get to our lessons:

Artist of the Week

Product Details

Da Vinci (Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists) by Mike Venezia

Leonardo Da Vinci
So impossible to go over any artist in one week; but to breeze through Leonardo in one week was particularly difficult.  I brought out about 10 different books we own on him and looked at different things and discussed various aspects about him.  The point is just to plant some baby seeds at this stage of the game; but it was really hard to go into this week knowing we were just going to do a quick peek at such a Master.

Language Arts
All About Spelling 5: Step 5 completed
Grammar Ace - Lesson 14 & 15
Roots of English-pg 1-11 (I decided to restart this book again, but instead of doing it with flashcards we would do it as a workbook; so we will see if this works better.)

Science
Apologia: Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Earth: pg 121-129 Pterasaurs
Notebooking book: writing some notes up on the key points.

Activities:
We did 2 good walks around our neighborhood this week, the State Fair, The Giving Tree, The Library, built a new small LEGO kit....piano with Giz.....Made Granola from Scratch, baked apples....that's all I can think of right now!

August 3-11th 2013 Pictures

August 3-11th 2013  Pictures
I am sharing a little bit of INDIANA with you all with the pictures this week!

Dd earned a new LOTR LEGO prize!

 INDIANA STATE FAIR

Dd and Dh at the Walt Disney Exhibit---very fun exhibit!

Dd rode her first park ride ever---with me--the Ferris Wheel!

Our favorite part of the fair: The Pioneer Village

Heather----is this who you did your Easter Egg's with this year???

We have to have some cow's and chicken's in our picture's ---we are in Indiana after all!

Our other favorite part of the fair is the HONEY place!  We get honey ice cream, and honey sticks.  This year we bought beeswax scented with lavender to put on our dry skin---heavenly!

I personally LOVE the 4H poster displays!  I always spend forever reading as many as I can!  My poor family had to wait for me!  I plan on doing some pressed flowers like this poster'er did.

We had 2 Black Swallowtail Butterflies hatch this week---which was great!  These are the pictures from the first part of the week.  We did go to the Indiana State Fair; but those pictures aren't ready yet.  I'll download those in a little bit--check back later!

I released this butterfly---and it flew away; and then flew back into our yard!  I've never-ever had that happen!!!  And then SHE flew over to this Black-Eyed Susan flower and I took her picture!  It was really neat to see her return!

This is the chrysalis she hatched from.  We had a fennel next to our pea plants in the spring.  The momma butterfly laid her eggs on the fennel, and I watched the caterpillars for weeks, and then we brought in the chrysalis that was on the pea stalk and put it in our aquarium.  It only took about 2-3 weeks until she hatched.

Dd and Dh were invited to join GG and her dad right on the 2nd row to watch the Indianapolis Indians baseball team play!  How cool is that!  They had a great time out all together!  It was a Dad's and Daughter's night out!

A few weeks ago Dd and Dh went to a see the woman's basketball team here in Indiana--the FEVER play---here are a few pictures from that game too:

Dd and Dh had a really nice time at the game--and ate well!  Free tickets from Dh's vendor contact through work.

Garden August 1st 2013

I'm falling behind on getting garden pictures into the blog this year--- half of the pictures I took didn't come out.  The camera didn't focus (and I didn't know) and the last half of the pictures were ALL fuzzy--but here are some that I took first that were okay, but they were my 'fun' photo's!  But, my veggie pictures didn't turn out.

There are a few bee's on this sunflower--can you see them?

There is a beetle on this sunflower---very cool!
