Core E
Week 35
This was week 35 of a 36 week program! Next week will be our 55th and last week doing Core E!! I really didn't add as much to the Core as I wanted to these last 2 months, as Dd really has gotten excited to start Core F and has asked to hurry along. She loves geography and learning about other cultures; so this should be just up her alley.
We didn't have anything big happen this week, so we had a good basic week. I should say that the ONE thing that was kind of "big" was that Dd did have to get her "6th grade shots" this week, at the doctors office. She did a great job, and took them like a champ!
We had GG come over on Friday for a few hours as a way to celebrate our hard work Monday through Thursday and reward our diligence. We kept our Friday lessons on the light side. It was great for Dd to spend as much time outside on Friday as possible with such beautiful weather. We had long walks every day this week with our dog, Sophie. Sophie has been especially appreciative of all our walkies! Dd, GG, and Sophie spent a great deal of time in the back yard with the hose--and plenty of the water---and I believe Sophie officially got her bath--but the girls were in their swim suits and were soaking wet too!!!
Dd gets magazines; some monthly, others bi-monthly--and really enjoys them very much. I thought I would mention them since I think I have only mentioned them once before. She reads: Ranger Rick, Cobblestone, Jack & Jill, and National Geographic for Kids.
Khan Academy- this is an online resource that is free to all; and many homeschoolers use this site to enrich their lessons. We did just that this week; as we watched one of their video's on "The Vietnam War".

Read Aloud:
In Search of the Source by Neil Anderson--we had to order this book last minute from Sonlight; but it arrived on Tuesday and we jumped right in and started reading! It is really good! It is a missionary story about a family living in New Guinea. Dd says it reminds her of the Reader she read during Core E, Bruchko. The family in the book are writing a bible in the language for the people there.

What Katy Did (Puffin Classics) by Susan Coolidge and Cathy Cassidy

My Dd has slowed down reading What Katy Did this this week; she
has mentioned Katy is now paralyzed and I think this has saddened her so much it has
become difficult for her to read this book. So, she conveniently started a
second, more safe book to turn to--Laura Ingles Wilder. We've read and
listened on audio to most of the series; many 3-4 times already. Dd said
she wanted to read it to herself.

Piano:
we had a piano week this week!! Which makes me happy!!
Cooking/Baking:
This was the week of SMOOTHIES! Dd made 4-5 smoothies for herself! I was so pleased she was eating healthy, that I didn't care she was making a mess. Then by the end of the week, she was cleaning up her mess, so I was double pleased.
Also this week, Dd made an INCREDIBLE apple crisp that was fantastic, wonderful, delicious, and repeatable!!!
Last week Dd finished In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson; which is a book where the main character listens to the radio broadcasts of the baseball games. She is a BIG baseball fan; as in BIG, BIG fan!! So, we checked out from our library the movie 42; which is about Jackie Robinson. We really liked the movie a lot.
