Sonlight Core G Week 4 Nov. 3-7,2014

Sonlight Core G Week 4 Nov. 3-7,2014

These weeks are just flying by!  We spent last week painting our house in Indiana, and returned to Michigan on Sunday totally wiped out.  Our house that is for sale is back on the market after two weeks off.  We made some improvements to our house.  We painted a lot of walls and molding, and rearranged our furniture.  Our realtor suggested we combine the furniture we left into a few 'full' rooms, and leave the other rooms completely empty.  I am generally not an unmotivated person, but Monday and Tuesday I could not get myself going!  We had used up all our energy the week before, and had nothing left!  So, we picked up our crochet needles, turned on the tv, and our audio (not at the same time), and sat, sat, sat!  By Wednesday we were back to our normal selves, and primed to start back on our lessons.  So, this was a short week for us --regarding getting our work done.  We did do a great job on making things!!  I put a post, after this post, with pictures of the things we made this week--at least SOME of what we did.

Here is our summary:

Lamplighter Book: Completed
This company, "Lamplighter", has spent years re-printing books that have gone out of print, but were top sellers years ago (some from the 1800's).  These books are all similar in that they all are promoting Christianity, and are all above average, quality books!!  These are hand chosen books that are incredible.  I can't recommend any collection of books more than these gems!

We finished: Jill's Red Bag by Amy Leuvre.
This book is about Jill, a young girl who brings all those around her to the Lord.  Her "red bag" is the collection bag for her 'tenth'; her tithe.  She innocently asks all the people (young and old) to help her fill her bag.  She is wanting to use the tithe to build a Missionary Building in a neighboring town, to serve the people there.  She is aided by her younger brother, Jack (yes, they are "Jack and Jill"), and their younger sister (with a lisp), "Bumps".  The youngest, Bumps, is the comic relief of the book!  I laughed a lot throughout the pages that Bumps entered.  The three children change all those around them, as they show all the "Golden Path".

Nature Hike:
Dd went on a nature hike in the woods beside our apartment.  Here are some of her pictures:

Ranger's Apprentice: The Burning Bridge: completed!!  Dd is totally loving this series!  She has already begged her grandmother, "Giz' to make her a full length cape (with hood) as her Christmas gift.  Giz made her 2 previous capes, but they were shorter--stopped around her thighs.  The Rangers, in Ranger's Apprentice wear capes.  She'd like the 'oak pin' that they wear as well!  I have to admit, I enjoyed listening as well.

Amazon's comment on the book (this is a big series, but the review is just for this book):
The international bestselling series with over 5 million copies sold in the U.S. alone!

For years, the Kingdom of Araluen has prospered, with the evil lord Morgarath safely behind the impassable mountains. For years, its people have felt secure. but the scheming hand of the dark lord has not been idle. . . . on a special mission for the rangers, will and his friend Horace, an apprentice knight, travel to a neighboring village and discover the unsettling truth: All the villagers have either been slain or captured. but why? Could it be that Morgarath has finally devised a plan to bring his legions over the supposedly insurmountable pass? if so, the king's army is in imminent danger of being crushed in a fierce ambush. And will and Horace are the only ones who can save them.

Perfect for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, T.H. White’s The Sword in the Stone, Christopher Paolini’s Eragon series, and George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series.

Hittite Warrior by Joanne Williamson: Completed
Dd says this book was: "Bland, Plain, Flat, and no good words. The story line wasn't very good.  It spent too long focusing on things without anything exciting happening.  This book was just boring."
Usually Dd really enjoys the books that SL assigns, but this time she really disliked this book.  She kept waiting for it to get better; since some books that SL assigns starts out slow but gain their momentum.  She stuck it out and read the whole book, but never did have anything good to say about this one.
