SL Week 2 on Core E & Garden Highlights August 10, 2012

This post will have our lessons reviewed first; then the garden highlights second.

August 13-17th, 2012
Core E
Week 2

We fit in a lot of things this week: library, playdate with RL, book sale downtown, and we worked at The Giving Tree (our church's food pantry), and went to the Children's Museum where we visited the Science Port and Science Labs doing experiments at both!

I am really glad we had officially started working at The Giving Tree for our church.  Our church has a real "store" on Main Street in Jamestown; that is run by our church with all volunteers.  The food is all donated by our church or anyone who donates food or money to buy the food.  People needing food can come in and show they live in the area; and can get free food, and other supplies every two weeks.  Considering how many people; especially children that are going hungry these days- it feels great to tithe money and our time to such a great thing.  It is great for Dd to start volunteering at a young age and learn the value of being a good person that gives back to the community.  I am so happy to be able to do this with her; it is a blessing to us.  We look forward to our nights that we work there.

SL IG work mainly was a continuation of the books we started last week.  We covered Bible, William Wilberforce, Moccasin Train, Thee, Hannah, Sounding Forth the Trumpet--etc.etc.  I get tired of writing the SL books as we read many of them week after week.

Our electives & add-in's:

Some highlights from our garden this week.  It was so nice Sat. 8-10-12 that we harvested some of our kohlrabi, turnips, tomaotes, green peppers, gourds, blackberries, etc. and Dh planted 4 new sections in the garden with our fall crops.

  1. Your garden is just amazing!!! i hope mine will do better next year. BTW, water bill just arrived and Michael was shocked to see it was the same as yours! I was rather relieved as I figured it would be even higher!
