| As we tried to balance the opposing quarters, she had to roll the pencil closer to the "resistance" as the weight got heavier. This was more interesting than I first thought it would be. We started with one quarter on each side, then added more and more quarters (one at a time) to the "resistance" and still tried to make it balance. |
We went over first-class, second-class, and third-class levers. I drew the examples for each lever in Dd's workbook and had her diagram their specific "resistance", "effort", "fulcrum", and "levers". We had a really good time on this chapter---not finished yet, but it has been good.
We got all the things ready, but it didn't take long to realize we needed a third person to be able to do this experiment, and we couldn't do it. But, we were able to watch it on YouTube- we watched this one, and recommend it:
