SL Core G Week 2 "D" Oct. 6-10th, 2014

SL Core G
Week 2 "D"
Oct. 6-10th, 2014
(Seventh week on Core G)

Dd took this night time picture--I liked it so much I wanted to share it with you all!

Dd is still adding onto her plastic bottle piece; here is what it looks like now.

Difficult to summarize this week--as it was very ***; not sure what to say about it, exactly....  On Monday, Dd was already not in a participatory mood!  Being a 12 year old girl has it's good weeks, and it's bad weeks.  The advantage to having years of homeschooling under my belt, is that I can see when to walk away from a bad situation.  In years past, I pushed doing our lessons, even on days when Dd's mood was as sour as vinegar!  Boy, those difficult days were awful!  She didn't learn anything and I ended up burnt!  I would think, 'why didn't I just leave her be and wait for her to be open again to learning...later?'  So, that is the story of our week--she was going through some hormone days, and I let her be, and tried to maintain my sanity.  She did the work that was on her independent schedule and by herself.   So, "we" didn't get much done--but enough that I still feel okay about it.  At least we didn't have any major meltdowns, like we would have done if I had tried to be a teacher this week.

With LOTS of time to herself this week; she spent time on various activities: keyboarding each day (and she got to play on her piano in Indiana on Thursday and Friday), crocheting, sand sticker 'painting' kits by Giz (x2), and plastic bottle table continuation project...

Thursday we left Michigan and drove to our house in Indiana.  I mowed and fertilized the yard on Thursday evening.  After the yard work, I called my husband to find out HIS car had a broken water pump!  My car just got out of the shop 1 1/2 weeks ago!  He had a bunch of problems, but managed to get it home.  Friday, he got it into the same shop that had just fixed my van.  He had to call in sick to work since he didn't have a way to get there.  I did offer to drive back home Thursday night, so he could go to work, but he thought he would ask a friend to drive him in on Friday.  So, we are back to having ONE auto again...which hubby will use to get to work, and Dd and I will be home without a ride again....no fun!  But, hopefully the shop will be able to fix his car fairly quickly.  You would never believe how much they charged to fix my van....whatever you are thinking, triple it!  I'm hopeful they won't be charging that much on hubby's car repairs!

Friday morning, Dd and I met the "L" family at their house at 9:30 am to start our visit.  We packed up and went to Eagle Creek Park for our hike.  It was a COLD and drizzly day, but we were so happy to be there we didn't care.  It was 48 F (which is 8.89 C) degrees when we checked the temperature.  We did our hike, then set up for our camp out.  We got a fire going, and roasted hot dogs on the fire while the camp stove cooked the apple cider and baked beans.  After lunch we made s'mores!  It was great to warm up with hot cider and hot dogs!  We also had a veggie platter that was fantastic!  After the park, we went back to the "L" house for a homemade pizza dinner!  Delicious!  Then Heather and I worked on some sewing/craft projects while the kids watched the Lord of the Rings; The Two Towers movie.  Then we had to end our visit and regretfully go home--at 10 PM!  What a great visit!  Such a blessing!

Saturday we cleaned up the house, and then got on the road to return to Michigan--and hubby, who was stuck at home without a car!  It is a FIVE hour drive between our house in Indiana and our apartment in Michigan.  It is a fairly easy drive, thanks to my Garmin/GPS, normally, but.....BUT....the Garmin/GPS froze after 1/4 of the way home!!!! and I have not memorized the route!  And have no sense of direction!!!  So, we had to call my hubby every bit to get the next part of the directions.  I messed up a few times, and had to turn around a few times, but we eventually found our way back!  What.a.day!

Now for our lessons:
all done by Dd without me this week-

Bible:
we took the week off from our bible lessons; but did our Psalm of the week: Psalm 122 with the Bible and Believer's Bible Commentary

Psalm 122

A song of ascents. Of David.

I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
Our feet are standing
    in your gates, Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is built like a city
    that is closely compacted together.
That is where the tribes go up—
    the tribes of the Lord
to praise the name of the Lord
according to the statute given to Israel.
There stand the thrones for judgment,
the thrones of the house of David.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure.
May there be peace within your walls
    and security within your citadels.”
For the sake of my family and friends,
I will say, “Peace be within you.”
For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
    I will seek your prosperity.
