Shades Park
Sept 20, 2014
I think we took around 400 pictures, but I've narrowed it down to 10 for the blog post...but, boy could I easily add another 10! This was a beautiful day, and we didn't have the trails to ourselves like we usually do. We came across quite a few different family's on the trails. We just waited for those others to go on, and we waited for the quiet to return before we got going again. We were able to pace ourselves between other groups so we could hike without much human interaction. When it is busy like this, we don't usually get to see many birds--but, we did see an American Bald Eagle! That is the first time I've ever knowingly seen one in the wild. Dh and Dd said they had seen one before; but I must have been looking the wrong way at that time!
Trails 1 & 2 go through a gorge that has lots of running water to maneuver around. With so much water around, there were many different varieties of lichen to inspect and admire. There was also a lot of ferns....Ahhh, love those ferns!
Dh picked some Sassafras leaves and bark for us to chew while we hiked.
