Sonlight Core F
Week 31
July 14-19, 2014
Dd on our patio, we have already put up a bird feeder and are attracting birds, squirrels, and chipmunks!
Our first week "settled" in Michigan is behind us now. We went to the downtown library three times!!!! Dd has hit pay-dirt regarding graphic novels!!! This library makes our Brownsburg library seem small. She is really loving this new library and wishes to go every day!

Dh has been coming home for lunch each day, and Dd has done most of the cooking and prepping for that meal. She has been doing really well with her cooking. I must say we went from zero meals with Dh each weekday, to TWO meals per day!

We started back with our lessons this week, but at half pace, and not all subjects. We just took it fairly easy as we still had a lot of unpacking to do; and finding a spot for our things.
We have had Downey Woodpeckers, Cardinals, various Sparrows, Goldfinches, and Doves at our feeder. I've seen Robins and Bluejays around our patio.
Christie had told me about a great website, that I want to share---"Seterra" http://online.seterra.net/

Dh and I have also been learning on this site. It is a geography game that is actually very fun, and we are all learning from it.
Dd has spent this week making "Granny Squares" in her crocheting. I am looking forward to her teaching me how to do this! She learned from a book I had bought her. She has also been making hemp necklaces, and did a clay piece. She used a flat plastic lid to make a tablet shape and made a textured background and a poppy flower in the middle.
Sat. we all went to a Farmer's Market to buy fruit, veggies, and honey here. It was fantastic! We brought Sophie too!

This is my favorite plant so far. It is some kind of thistle, and has started producing purple blooms on the head of the plant in the past few days. I'll try to post another updated photo soon.
We are studying Africa for Core F. She did another blank map of Africa. Learning all the countries on that continent is hard!
Bible:
A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by Keller
(we will finish this book before we get back to our VP bible, there are 2-3 chapters to go!)
4 A-E
Dd still had some confusion about a negative and a positive being negative, and two negatives being positive...so we will print out some worksheets from MUS's online worksheet generator from this lesson next week to get those laws down before we move on to lesson 5. That is something I really appreciate with MUS, you don't move forward until you absolutely have the lesson down pat!
She only did her skip-counting family (4's) one day.
This very "fluffy" squirrel has no fear of people! When we walk in our out of our patio door all the birds will fly away, but it will just stay until he feels like leaving! He is a character alright!
Science:
Dd informed me she didn't want to continue on with Botany (Apologia), but wanted to start (again) the Apologia: Exploring Creation (Chemistry and Physics) book.
Wish you could see his belly! He is one of the most well feed squirrels I've ever seen. There is also one very young, very small squirrel at our feeders too. The little guy is very vocal and makes lots of noise.
I am also taking Chelle's advise on having Dd do some science reading on her own. Chelle has her children read a portion of literature, and a portion of science reading each week. I've been wanting to do that too, as I think it is such a great idea!
