SL Week 20 Core F March 10-14, 2014

SL Week 20
 Core F
March 10-14th, 2014

This week was another week in MARCH.  March should just be called and extended name--"Lower your expectations, do what you can, lower the bar--March"!  Next week is a scheduled "LOW" and very much needed too!  We didn't get done all of what we were suppose to this week; that is for sure!!  Friday I had errands to do, and when we did get to our lessons Dd wasn't in the right frame of mind to absorb any material.  She has found a new spot, I guess you'd call it a "Thinking Spot"--I haven't decided--maybe it is a "Growing or Independence Spot"; it is sitting on top of her two story playhouse in the backyard, with the wind blowing through her hair!  Since our house didn't have any big trees, we put up a fancy 2 story playhouse for her when we first moved here when she was 4 so she could have something to go out and play in.  Now that she is almost 12 she is finally taking to it!  I am glad.  I finally gave her the VP Bible workbook and her MUS workbook so she could do her work outside on Friday; since she definitely wasn't getting anything done inside.

I am not a great planner, and I am not a great schemer either--but twice this week when I had asked Dd to do something in our lessons she didn't and then in the evening when she asked if she could have some computer time, I reminded her that she didn't do what I had asked her to do in her lessons, and she wasn't happy, but accepted her fate.  I was proud of me and proud of her.

Anyway, I like to keep track of what we have got done each week and see where we are and where we are headed.  It helps process my brain and make me think.  You know we may have listed a lot of books we are reading; but many of them we are only reading a section or two each week--so don't think we are some super amazing reading family; we are just slow plotters!  Some books take us MONTHS to complete! My point in this paragraph is that I hope by my posting what we get done each week we don't look like we are trying to be prideful.  This is a tool for me, and helps me to process what we've done and where we need to work and I can see that more objectively by seeing it here.  Some of our listings of books may be useful to you; and that would be good!  But, I definitely don't want my listing of things done to make anyone feel 'less'.  We have good weeks and bad weeks, in regards to how much we get accomplished.

Last week I went to Facebook to check on a person and saw someone I know and it didn't take me long before I started to feel quite "LESS THAN".  Which, of course, got me to thinking to my contributions to the online world.....and wondering if I have that impact on others to.  Some weeks we do get a lot accomplished, and that would be hard on someone who is coming off a week where they didn't get a lot accomplished.  But, then of course, the opposite could happen to--they could visit when we barely did anything besides bible and math.  So, I guess I am saying I hope my notes on what we get done aren't being used as a marker to compare apples to oranges.  God seems to be making each child for a specific purpose, and the ingredients for each child are so different; and so it shouldn't surprise us that our daily activities would be so different.

I still feel bad for that person I saw on Facebook.  I thought long and hard and I finally figured that they must really feel very in need of love and acceptance to post all the things they post.  There are so many empty people out there that must not have received the love they needed growing up, and then never fully have accepted God all the way into their lives, and remain so twisted and crippled.  I hope I can raise my daughter so that she will have a full cup of love in her heart, and also be willing to keep her door open for the Lord all the days of her life.

Christie, Chelle, Michelle, Allie,...: I'm beginning my research for Core G, feel free to leave a comment about books about the Ancients--I am making my lists and thinking about what I need to buy, borrow, or ILL! I thought "ILL" would be better to say than "steal"! ha!  If you had any special books or things that really helped you fully process understand this time period; please share and I can look that product up!  I love getting ideas about things to use in our lessons.

Activities: Knitting Club, Swim & Gym, LHE Co-op, Library Twice!, and Dd is back to spending hours outside in the backyard!!! Which makes us both happy!  LEGO was very big this week; as was taking lots of pictures!  Then if you look at the next post we went to 2 parks with Dh on Saturday to see those Sandhill Cranes we always hear on the ground!  Mission Accomplished!  Plus we got to hike around too!

Knitting:
ETA: Forgot to say that Dd knitted a scarf this week.  I'll try to get a picture of it in here.  She wanted BIG knitting needles and then did it really loose, and wallah!--done!  too!

Our artist of the Week:
Diego Rivera

Diego Rivera: Painting Mexico (A Proud Heritage: the Hispanic Library) by Deborah Kent

We did read this whole book, it was very interesting (Diego Rivera: Painting Mexico). This book is mostly a biography and didn't have enough pictures of his actual work.  I used the book below to show more images to Dd of his work, and this book to learn more about who he was. We always focus on Frida Kahlo and this time we focused primarily on Diego.  I had planned to have enough time this week to give 2 days to each of them; but only had enough time to give 2 days to Diego, and just skim Frida.  But, we have covered Frida many times before.  I am glad I finally gave Diego his time!
