SL Core D- Week 16 Aug 15-19th 2011

We have been enjoying some more experiments with the TOPS: Green Thumb: Radish book.  Also this week we have started and finished:

Mr. Revere and I: Being an Account of certain Episodes in the Career of Paul Revere,Esq. as Revealed by his Horse by Robert Lawson

What a very good book!  It was 'suppose' to be an "Advanced Reader" for Dd in Core 3/D; but I wanted to read it too.  The story is told from Paul Reveres' horses' point of view--Sherry.  She is from England, and came over with their military.  Over the course of a few months and experiences on both sides she decides she wants to be  "Free and Independent"!

Dd is reading:
The Cabin Faced West by Jean Fritz

She is liking it very much; but it did seem to start slow for her.  The first few days, she didn't want to read beyond her assigned reading.  Now she is way beyond what she had been scheduled!  She could have finished it today; but wanted to savor it one more day and finish it up tomorrow.

Today a  good friend of mine, mailed us:

Martha Washington: America's First Lady (Childhood of Famous Americans) by Jean Brown Wagoner

It will be read in the near future.  It certainly has been a lot of fun studying and reading about the American Revolution.  I also have the following book that we own pulled out for reading soon:

Revolutionary John Adams by Cheryl Harness

I love reading about John Adams, and we love anything written by Cheryl Harness - so this will be a bonus.  Of course, it would be great to read 1776 by David McCullough; but I don't think my Dd is ready for that book!  Give her a few more years before she gets addicted to D. McCullough, like her parents.  For now we will stick to Jean Fritz, Cheryl Harness, etc.

Tuesday we had a nice visit with one of Dd's friends from LHE.  We went swimming at their neighborhood pool; sans the heater for the pool!  It was still nice to visit.

Today in our package, my dear friend is also letting me compare my old version SL Science to her new version SL Science 3 and now I will be able to match up my current Student Sheets with her current Teaching Sheets!  When I bought them used, I was told they would match up; but they didn't.  Now I can do a better job with our science paperwork.  We do an excellent job on all the experiments but we needed a little help with the paperwork!  I am thankful for my friend!!

  2. I love the jumper dd is wearing! I cannot wait to get to the TOPS experiments.. I am still tempted to do them now instead of when we get to them - we'll see how that goes with co-op starting though..
