This week Dd and I *finally* got the itch to hit our community pool.  We swam Monday through Thursday, and would have swam on Friday but we had to pack for our trip back down to Indiana.  The pool here is absolutely freezing!!!  But, after about 5 minutes of swimming it starts to feel a little warmer---but don't stop swimming!  I'm glad she finally wanted to go swimming here.  It use to be that we would see people in and around the pool all the time, but lately it has been abandoned---I wonder if the pool heater stopped working, or if school started, or why the sudden decrease in numbers?

This week we finished all our Core F things except for Dd's "Reader", Water Sky.  Once she finishes that book up we will be done.  I've been checking my books, and ordering the ones I need for Sonlight; plus some extra ones that look particularly good.  Some of the books I'm getting to go along with our Core G: I have all the Sonlight books, and have picked some add-in's from Chelle's blog, WP's Ancient course, and Rainbow Resources Ancients course.  I already have a lot of add-in's but found a few books from those sources that I didn't have yet, and thought I'd post some of the books we are going to be reading in Core G.  I am getting excited to repeat our journey into studying Ancient history again!

This was another big keyboarding week! Which is great!  She has figured out how to play the following songs:

I think we are going to finish up this core next week, a week early---but, we will see since those EHN pages always take longer than I think they will!  Plus, I think we will need a trip to go mow soon...and that will be 2 days out of our plans.

This week was suppose to be dedicated to learning about New Zealand, but we also did quite a bit on Australia too.

I finally caught the bug that Dh and Dd have had for weeks.  I really thought I was going to slip by without getting it, but no!  I was still able to do our lessons for the most part.  Thursday, I really ran out of fuel and didn't get a lot done.  I had **planned** to take Dd to Kirk Park; which is on the beach, but she said she was too tired to go play and I was so disappointed!!  

We still aren't getting a good rhythm on our lessons, and aren't up to where I wanted to be by now.  Hopefully soon we can get more done.  I think all the meal making that we have been doing for Dh and his coming home for lunch each day has really put me out of whack.

We did have 2 big things this week---on Saturday we went to Huff Park!  See post after this post for the pictures!  It was a wetlands, and very different from any park I've ever been to.  We walked out on these walkways through a wet, wetland!  Under our walk was either mud or water, and LOTS of cat-tails!  Then we went to the movies!  We had not been to the movies since Thor 2 came out and Dd was invited by a "L" family member (R) to share in her prize from that summers reading program at our library.  She won 2 free tickets, and concession stand coupons, and took Dd along with her and I was lucky enough to get invited to go with them and enjoy in on the movie with them.  We saw the movie: "Guardians of the Galaxy".  It was very emotional, and I was crying before the first 30 minutes was over!  The main character's mom died of cancer, in the hospital,....sad, sad, and touching.  The whole movie was very touching--which is unusual for an "action movie".  We liked it a lot!

I'm not sure pictures will do this place justice---it was really beautiful.

 

Milkweed, and see the bloom bud?  I know my friend from the "L" family knows how much I like Milkweeds!  2 of the transplants I moved into our IN home came back this year; I was so excited.  These are the plants that Monarch butterflies eat and lay their eggs on, so they are special plants.

Dd found this Preying Mantis for me to see!

I just loved these plant leaves---can you see the lines/veins on the plant?  It was even more interesting up close/ in person.

We had to see what the big fuss was about on the trails on this part---and were rebels and walked around the "Danger" signs.  I don't think they needed to put such signs up for mud and water on the walkways.  We went as far as we wanted and enjoyed the trail.

This picture reminds me of the years I spent living in Florida.

There was sign of deer everywhere.  The woman we chatted with on the trail had just seen a Doe and her two babies and told us where to look, but they were gone when we got there.

This area has a lot of these pretty thistle plants.

This park was teeming with bees, bees, bees!

I am checking out Ambleside's website for some ideas on how to do Core G, and add in some extra's.  I wanted a place to keep track of the ideas I'm finding.  I have spiral notebook after spiral notebook with the suggestions I find, but never find them when I need them!  I am going to try keeping an "Ideas" spot in my blog, and see if that is more useful.

 Perhaps a spiral book for writing about Current Events?

Writing- plus Current Events idea:   Keep a calendar of events. We suggest students choose the most important 2 or 3 stories of the week and re-write them in their own words as a chronicle of the year, making the heading of each page something like "This Week in History, September 1st....

I was looking at my IG (Instructor's Guide) for Core F, and pulling out all the completed forms and decided to count how many weeks we have been at Core F---this was week 46 and perhaps 3 more weeks left--so it will take 49 or 50 weeks for us to do Core F.  It is hard for me to believe that most families do it in 36!  I really thought it wouldn't take us this long to do Core F.  According to my scheduled plans, we were suppose to be finished by now!  Oh well!  It was the weeks of packing that threw my plans to the way side.

We had a big week, as Dd and I drove to Indiana on Monday so we could go with our "L" family friends to the 
** Indiana State Fair **
 on Tuesday (see previous post for details!).  Monday night I got our yard mowed, and check in on the house.  We met up with the "L" family at 10am and got back home around 10:30pm!  It was a great time!!!  Lots of memories were made!  So thankful for that special day!

Then we drove back home on Wednesday after cleaning the house and re-vacuuming it again.  I think I could vacuum that floor every day and still get something in my vacuum!  Wednesday Dd was still SO tired from the day before--she slept until 9am!  Then on Thursday she was sneezing, and by Friday she was coughing!  Dh had been sick from before we left, and she got it.  We still managed to get some of our lessons done, a little on Thursday and a little on Friday--not much, but considering how lousy she felt, I was happy.

Dd taught me how to make a "Granny Square" this week!  So fun!

The other big event from this week was that Uncle "R" died on Tuesday.  So, Dh had to go alone since Dd was sick.  Dh drove to Indiana on Friday after doing a half day, and made it to our house for bed.  Then on Saturday he drove down to Mitchell for the funeral.  I was sad that I didn't get to go and say goodbye to him.  Dh told us all about the service, and it sounded really well done.

For our lessons in Core F; we were in the "Pacific Islands"!  We had a lot of EHN/World Book pages to do in a short time, so we didn't get hardly any electives done.  But, I think it is more important at this point to finish the last bits of Core F.  I've ordered Dd's "completing a core gift"...and it is going to be really exciting to her!  I can't wait for her to see it!  I'll tell you all later, after she opens it---she sometimes see's what I write here.

Survey of the Bible: A Treasury of Bible Information by William Hendriksen

With our Veritas Press Bible Program, we were suppose to be reading sections out of the book: A Treasury of Bible Information Survey of the Bible by William Hendriksen, but it was expensive (like, over $30) so I never bought it.  But, then my friend has been buying and selling things used and I looked for it used, and bought it!!!!  So exciting!  The book came in damaged from the post office, it looks like it got stuck in a machine, and has black burn marks on the edge...but, it is okay for our use.  So, this week we read that book for our bible for the week.  And now, we can start to use it as scheduled for our VP bible program!  Happy about that!
