Spruce Day Seven

Spruce Day Seven

This was our last work day before we need to rent a UHAUL and move out of the apartment.  Each morning we have been loading our van, and now that Giz and Grampy are here with their truck, and filling up as much as we can.  The packing up our apartment each morning takes a hour or two to do.

Dd worked the Power Sprayer and Cleaned:

Dd learned how to use the sprayer from Grampy.  She was SO excited to do this.  She did the one stairs going down, and the back wall.  G&G are going to leave their sprayer, so she can work on cleaning throughout the summer.

The previous owner left the blue 'blanket' for the pool.  It is suppose to hold the heat in...and make the pool warm enough for us to swim, since it is not a heated pool.

Evolution of the Living Room:

Here Grampy is sanding down the Spackle patches.  Dh bought that cool new tool, and we have all taken turns getting to use it.  We had painted the floor in the LR a few days back, but today we patched holes, did the trim, and painted about 80% of the walls.  We have a color paint to paint on the floor soon.

This wall (light wall) had wall paper on it yesterday.  If you remove wall paper you have to cover it with a primer before you can paint it, so here Dh is painting the whole wall with primer.  By the end of the day, I come and paint it with our new color--"Coconut Milk" which is an off-white, or eggshell color.

The color in our bedroom and what I've started to paint on this LR wall is the color "Coconut Milk"

Evolution of Master Bedroom:

Doing the trim work in the MB,  you can see how the Coconut Milk is a light color--it looks kinda beige

Here is the MB with a whole coat of Coconut Milk on the walls.

Evolution of Dd's loft bedroom:
Dd's bedroom theme is the Hobbit, from LOTR
Welcome to the Shire!

After Dd had painted her floor twice with Kilz, we realized the finish on that paint wasn't going to be a good floor.  We needed an ENAMEL paint, with a gloss finish, to keep it looking clean.  So Dd took out her color swatches that she likes, and settled on this color.  She is SUPER excited about having such a fun floor!

Spruce Day Six

Spruce Day Six

We removed the wall paper from the master bedroom and from the dining room today.  We painted the master bedroom with the Kilz primer coat today too.  Tomorrow it should be ready for a coat of color.

Giz and Grampy working hard!!!  Giz worked with us some on the walls, and she scrubbed down the entire kitchen.  She cleaned out all the drawers, shelves, and windows.  We have been bringing boxes of our food each morning, and she has been organizing our pots, pans, dishes, and food.

Pappa working hard!

Dd painted her stairwell and the loft today---she gave the loft a second coat of Kilz.

This is after we got all the wall paper off the walls.

This is after the whole room has been coated in Kilz---the dark blue carpet and wall paper are behind us now!

We brought in the brown rug for our dog, Sophie to lay on while we worked...spoiled dog!

See the pretty wall paper?  I really liked this wall paper, but it had to go!  And go it did!

Our piles of carpet are getting smaller each day!

We are behind schedule of where we thought we would be by now...but, we are progressing!

Spruce Day Five

Spruce Day Five

Today we worked until Giz and Grampy arrived.  We painted the master closet, peeled wall paper from master walls; and painted the floor in Dd's loft bedroom.  Once G&G arrived, we had tours to do, and lots of catching up.  Tomorrow should be more productive.

Before

After
the paint is still wet, so it looks streaky.

Tomorrow Dd will put another coat down on her floor.

Day Four Spruce

Day Four Spruce

Before I show you all what we did today; here is what the rooms that we finished yesterday looked like today.  I didn't get a photo of the rooms after they got the whole floor covered.  It still needs another top coat, with a nice color---it won't be white when our work is complete!

Now---on to Day Four!

Even though Dh added more carpet and foam from the stairs, and I added from the Grandparents room, in this picture we have already hauled away 3-4 piles to the dumpster.  From now on these piles will be getting smaller as we haul away...and hopefully not add much to it!

Kilz...one of my favorite products!

Today we spent ALL our time up here in Dd's loft.  It had hundreds of staples and lots of carpet stripes to remove---then Dd and I painted all the trim with Kilz

Here is a portion of the treasures Dd has already brought over from the apartment.  She holds her Lego's in her lap for each trip over.

Dd had the genius idea to use a car 'crawler' to work her way along the walls to do her work.  During her many breaks I used it and found it to be so much easier on my body than bending and leaning.

Here is the far side of the loft---Spackle done!  we used another whole tub of Spackle today.

Staples up, Carpet Stripes up, trim down...

Happy worker---she earned a Star Wars figure for all her hard work!

Kilz on the stairs going down, as we call it a day!  We didn't get as much done without Dh here to help.  Plus Dd takes a LOT of breaks during the day!  But, it is progress!  Giz and Grampy arrive tomorrow to help us with the work; and I'm sure Giz will have good food to keep us going!

Dd took pictures of some of the flowers in front of the house:
