Spruce Day Three

Spruce Day Three

We had Dh with us today to work!  We put up one bird feeder on Day One, and by Day Two we had Tufted Titmice coming.  On Day Three a skinny squirrel found it!  Dh was joking about wondering how much he will weigh after we've lived here six months!!!  The squirrels at our apartment look like they have been spoiled!!!

The first two days we heard a Barred Owl and saw an Indigo Bunting.  We have seen so many birds--some that I am not positive (yet) what they are!  I am really looking forward to seeing some new and different birds.  Of course the usual birds were around--Cardinals, Chickadee's, Blue Jays...I keep hearing woodpeckers; but I haven't seen exactly which ones are here.

Day Three started at 9am and ended around 8:30pm...long day!

Dd cleans out the fireplace.  It has soot build up and needs a professional cleaning.

Here the LR is finally free of carpet stripes and staples...ready to Spackle.  I used up a brand new tub of Spackle on day three!  You can see Dd brought her two favorite American Girl dolls (on top of the fireplace mantle); they kept cracking the whip!

Dh was the designated carpet strip remover!  Those carpet stripes are really a bear to get up!

This is the master closet--still has the carpet stripes down, but Dd and I got all the many staples pulled up

We got the carpet up, but there are still staples on the stairwell down to the basement

We removed the wallpaper to see how the walls were underneath--so thankful they are fine.

This is the future homeschool room---carpet and padding up, but still carpet stripes.  The white carpet is gone!

This is the 'grandparents room'--the pink carpet is gone, but the foam padding is still down--it is giving me a hard time!  they really glued it down!

This is the master bedroom--carpet stripes and staples gone

Dd is pulling staples in the hallway, and I've begun to Spackle!

While I Spackle, Dh is removing the carpeting on the stairwell going up to the loft--white carpet gone!

Spackle done!  Dd bought a hand-held sander to sand down the Spackle bumps after I finished---I didn't get a pix of him doing his part....

Spackling the master bedroom, and master closet---which at this point I used up the whole tub of Spackle!  I've never used up a whole tub in one day before!!

Here are the carpet stripes...full of sharp nails!

Dh finished the stairwell--Dh got all the white carpet up(and carpet stripes, but there are still some staples

We painted the Living Room with Kilz

We painted the MB with Kilz

Doesn't this look so much better than that dark blue carpet?!

I didn't get a final picture, but we finished the 2 rooms in Kilz, and it was after 8 pm...so we cleaned up and headed home.  Dh has to be in to work in the morning, and Dd and I are back to working without him.

  1. Wow!!! you guys are amazing! All that done!!!!! I see that Kilz is a special primer. Are you going to paint the floors for now? Or was this just to get rid of smells, or whatever?

  2. Hi Heather,
We will paint the floor on top of the Kilz with another coat; but one with a color in it. When our house sells we can think about getting better floors. The Kilz was to seal in any smells that might have gotten soaked into the floors. It smells SO much better now! The previous owners were smokers and let their dog pee on the carpet....UGH. But, we got a good deal on the sale price of the house because of all the work we were going to have to do on it. It saved us thousands of dollars--and we know how to do all this kind of work--so we can do it ourselves and save money. We can't wait for you to come see it and visit!
