Sonlight Core F Week 32 "A" July 28th - August 1, 2014

Sonlight Core F
Week 32 "A" LOW (left-over's week)
July 28th - August 1, 2014

We had some work still to do on our section of African study's, so we couldn't go forward until we finished those last things---which is where a "left-over's week" comes in handy.  We had pages left to do in our "Eastern Hemisphere Notes" (EHN), Best-Loved Fairy Tales of the World (from Africa), and our read aloud, David Livingstone: Africa's Trailblazer.  With that done, we have officially finished our study on Africa!!! Next is the Pacific Islands, then New Zealand, Australia, and lastly Antarctica.  Then we will move on to Core G, part  1 of the study of Ancient history.  We have already done part 1 and 2 of the younger study of Ancient history, but are looking forward to coming back to this part of history as the Greeks are Dd's most favorite subject.  It is always great when the subject is keenly interesting to the student, and that doesn't always happen or match up.

We only went to the library one time this week, and didn't do much adventuring out of our apartment complex.

Our lessons this week:

The Greenleaf Guide To Old Testament History by Rob G. Shearer and Cyndy A. Shearer

This part of our bible study is going over Israel dividing into two kingdoms due to Solomon's getting off God's path and marrying 700 foreign/heathen wives and 300 foreign concubines, and building these women temples to their idols.  His son, Rehoboam got the southern "Judah" section, and Solomon's servant, Jeroboam got the northern section, "Israel".  Both the north and the south were wicked and not right in the Lord for many reasons.  I wanted us to do some research here and get more details, so I added in some other books:

Archaeological Study Bible:
Pg 518 The History of the Northern Kingdom
Pg 551 The History of the Southern Kingdom

The VP cards for 63 & 64 are too vague---like the card that just said "Psalms", with no specific Psalms to read, so we read over half of them in the bible and bible commentary and spent a good month, or so, studying them.  We also stopped to read the A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 with that too.  The problem is that VP expects us to be reading a book called Survey of the Bible (which I have finally ordered!) and I assume that books goes over the important parts of the section we are to read.  I don't think this program is wanting us to read the whole book, but it is hard to know what to read, and which ones we can skip!!!  So although these sections were not "assigned", we went ahead reading I Kings: 13 & 14.

Pre-Algebra Instruction Manual by Steven P. Demme

Math:
She still was having some trouble with adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying a mix of negative and positive numbers, so we worked on that as well as moving forward with her next lesson in MUS.  So, she did 2 days work each day--her actual lesson, and then I continued to print out worksheet generated sheets to review those concepts.  I also showed her video's from Khan Academy, but she didn't like the video's and thought they were 'boring', but I thought it would be good to see it explained a different way to aid her comprehension.
