ANCIENTS SL Core G Week 9 "B" March 16-20, 2015

 ANCIENTS
SL Core G
Week 9 "B"
March 16-20, 2015

Dd has been pulling branches to the stream to make herself a bridge this week.  She has had a lot of fun doing that.  She did run into a snake on the other side of the creek, and that totally surprised her!  Who would think we'd have snakes out when it is March and barely 40 degrees!

We have seen LOTS of birds this week, red-bellied woodpecker, robins, sparrows, LOTS of Red-Winged Blackbirds....

Spring has arrived, or visited, a few days this week.  I didn't see any new snow this week!  We were suppose to be above 40 degrees, but we had a lot of 30 degree days, and below that at night...but, we were glad to see the snow melting!!!  By Friday we could see some sprouts coming through the ground while out on our nature hikes.
Look how small the piles of snow are now!

Our surprise this week: Dd and I butted heads a few more times than usual this week, and I realized that since the roads are perfectly clear from ice I should go find the "Homeschool Building" and see if I can figure out some way to meet homeschoolers around here.  So, on Friday, Dd and I drove the 40-45 minute drive across town and went in to ask around.  We talked to two representatives from "Grace" homeschool group, and they directed us to the office for more help.  While explaining to the office personnel our situation (new to the area, haven't met ANY homeschoolers yet, and looking for ways to do that...) a woman beside me, filling out paperwork, spoke up and invited us to an event she was going to that night (Friday night).  She gave me her phone number and email and said to call her if I was interested.  So, then when we got home, Dd was pushing me to CALL! and ASAP!  So, I did and she told us where to meet her later for a movie and bible study with a group of young ladies in middle and high school age ranges.  The movie the girls had pre-chosen was The Giver and then one of the ladies lead a really thorough bible study afterwards; weaving concepts from the movie and bible together.  We didn't leave until after 10 pm!  We usually go to bed at 9pm!  We did get home before 11, so that was something.  Dd met the daughter of the woman that invited us, and her daughter-"Lexy" was a really good match for Dd.  Lexy is a Star Wars mega-fan, and had other unique interests that Dd also has...so they hit it off very well!  What a wonderful, surprise blessing from God that really surprised me!  Just when you think things aren't going well, then something like this happens and it helps you to see that He does have a plan and we need to be patient.

See the babies?

Mini-updates:

Snails---
I've lost count at how many babies are crawling around the tank now.  A second egg case arrived early this week.  The first one didn't do anything but get super hard like a seashell; and I don't think many or any babies came from it?! I don't know!

The snails had a second EGG CASE this week

Dh's job--
He had to work all last weekend, but thankfully got this weekend back off again.  He has a great attitude about his job and seems very improved.

Our Indiana House---STILL no buyer
We didn't have any views this week.  Our realtor has emailed repeatedly to tell us to lower our price, but we are trying to wait for April when we know the market will be good before we give in.  Prayers appreciated that our house will sell and that we won't have to keep dropping the cost.
Our Studies this week:
My schedule page

Dd's page--forgot to write on it that she made a pizza from scratch.
Bible:
We incorporated a lot of bible study into our lessons this week.  Our materials, Mystery of History, Veritas Press and BiblioPlan, all combined history with bible study.

1.)PBS ROMAN CITY hosted by David Macaulay (1994)
*This was a really good DVD.  David drew and explained how they built arches and aqua ducts, and as well as other things.  I'd recommend this one.  There was one scene with druids that was a bit weird, but it was just a minute of that.

2.)National Geographic Alexander the Great, the Man Behind the Legend (2004)  *I'd recommend this one too.

3.)Secret's of the Dead: China's Terracotta Warriors

SL's LA for week 9:
I read and discussed this, and did it verbally.  She already has a writing program, but I like to go over what SL is teaching each week so we can get all the help available to us.  She really liked this week's LA and was actually bummed she wasn't going to be writing; as it was about the Greek Gods!

She writes in her journal each night, and has been specifically writing about our old home in Indiana (with remorse).

Sewing:
Dd took an old pair of jeans and turned them into long shorts.  She measured, cut, folded, sewed fold, and ironed.  She did it very well and accurately.
