Eagle Creek Park April 23, 2014

Eagle Creek Park
April 23, 2014
with our "L" family friends

What a pretty picture of Eagle Creek!

"D" found an egg in the water---perhaps a goose egg?

All of the children wore their CAPES, and it was fun following around this wild group of hooded and  caped people...it took the time of which we live in out of the equation.

We saw deer tracks & raccoon tracks all over; but this picture really shows just how many deer have traveled through this spot!

I like this picture b/c you can just see how some trees are beginning to put forth LEAVES...leaves mean actual spring weather!

Such beautiful spring flowers were all over the ground!

Jack in the Pulpit---we saw a lot of them, and one that was variegated.

This is the first of those cool green metallic bugs that we have so many of---our first sighting of the year!

After our hike at Eagle Creek, the "L's" took us to see the woods and creek in their neighborhood.

The outside of the museum; and you can see the astronaut outfit on the sidewalk.  The NASA traveling exhibit was in the parking lot.  That was a nice extra!

This is one of the two murals we saw---Fresco's of Jesus and the disciples--this image was of Palm Sunday; Jesus going to Jerusalem.

This picture shows our little tour group; minus me---I'm taking the picture.  Here the tour guide is showing us how they made their own paint back in the day....from the materials in the bowls.

Can you believe our museum has a self-portrait of Rembrandt?!?!

We also went to the Greek Ancient History section---what there was of it...small room!

 And a favorite American painter---

 Georgia O'Keefe

A few pictures from the NASA exhibit:

We got to touch a real rock from the MOON!

The grounds had the most gorgeous tulips and bulbs blooming!

Sonlight Core F Week 24 April 21-26th, 2014

Sonlight Core F
Week 24
April 21-26th, 2014

What a week!  Friday was our only day home all day!  Giz (my husbands mother) had a heart by-pass surgery; actually she had FIVE by-passes, on Monday.  Dh and Dd went and spent the day at the hospital to support her.  I stayed home with our dog.

Tuesday we had our LAST Swim & Gym class at Plainfield Parks and Rec. building.  They played an awful game of "Dodge Ball"; and I think I grew 20 new gray hairs as a result...ugh!  But, Dd said she had a good time, and she didn't get hurt--though the older boys were WAY too rough with the younger kids.  Swimming went fine, and I think they had extra time to play in the pool after the lessons.  We also went to the library.
Here are a few of the 'flags' Dd made for her birthday party for the Capture The Flag game.

Wednesday we went to Eagle Creek Park again, and I successfully borrowed three "L" children to go with us.  They took us to a new trail than the last time, and we had a great time.  I spotted a Gray Tree Frog and had Dd capture it.  We kept it as a pet for two days before Dd decided it was time to free it.  I was willing to buy frog food at the local pet store, but Dd really wanted it free.  When we took them back to their house they invited us to see all the trails and spots they have in their woods in their neighborhood.

Thursday we went to the Indiana Museum of Art--(IMA).  That is one place that I really wish I took my Dd to more often!  We had a tour guide take us to see a few paintings and murals from Early European paintings.  It wasn't a great tour, but we looked at art that I might now look at myself, so that part is good.  We had our group; which consisted of the grand total of FOUR, and one tour guide.  So it was a very personalized tour.

Friday Dd and I spent the whole day at home!  We did our lessons at home around our activities each day, but not as long as we normally go.

This was really a week for activities and field trips; but we still made some progress with our lessons.  We are 'in the Middle East' for our Core F lessons.  So our books and reading material was all based from there.

Bible: Veritas Press Judges Through Kings
I am a little confused about this section.  Our "Card 50" had ten lessons to do for our Greenleaf book; but then when we looked at the cards 50-55, it has sections that were assigned to do on the Card 50.  So, I'm not sure if we are doing it like they wanted; but we are getting it all done.  I saw card 53 was to read "Psalms", but I don't know if they want us to read ALL the Psalms?  It wasn't listed on the Card 50?  So, we have done Cards 50-55 minus the section on Psalms.  I guess we will read the Psalms after we finish 2 Samuel.

Jessica's Journey Dramatic Audio by Hesba Stretton and John Rhys-Davies

Audio:
Jessica's Journey: completed

This was a wonderful audio, but I want to make sure to mention that during the first disc, there was one scene where the main character, Jessica, had an altercation with her drunken, violent mother.  It sounded like the mother hit her daughter, and that was a pretty intense moment for a minute.  I know some people would not like that moment; but in the end the mother comes around and becomes a much, much better person.  The mother changes from being so hurtful to loving.
