Ancients, Core G Week 8 "F" Feb. 16-20th, 2015

 Core G- ANCIENTS

Week 8 “F”
Our 25th week on Core G

(We have stopped moving forward in our Sonlight program, as we dig a litter deeper before moving on to the Romans. After an extended study of the Greeks, we are currently restarting over our study of Ancients, for a fairly quick refresher before getting back on the Sonlight program. This week we focused on the Sumerians, Egyptians, Mesopotamians, etc.)

Feb. 16-20, 2015

We had a fairly good week, we didn’t get too much done, nor did we go too easy…it was just about right.  I had much higher goals than we accomplished, but we have been wanting/needing more time to work on crocheting, so that was good.  Crocheting is good therapy for winter ills; whichever kind you have.

Mini-Updates:

Snails- we have at least SIX babies now!

Can you see the three babies in this picture?

Our house in Indiana- still nothing to report, it is on the market and had three groups/families go through last Saturday to see it, so it is getting some action, but no buyers.  At least one of the families that looked was waiting for their house to sell before they could buy—so they are in the same boat we are in.

Church search—we have been going between two different churches for the past six months, and appear to be no closer to settling into one.  After each service we like that church more!

Our lessons:

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.”

Corinthians 15:58

Instead of doing a ‘bible study’ this week, we read our BiblioPlan Ancients book, which starts with Genesis 1.  Each chapter is about 3/4th’s of a bible study, and 1/8 geography, 1/8 history.  It was nice to incorporate bible history with history.  When we started Core G our bible and our history were not united and I felt we missed an opportunity.  We are going to read BiblioPlan up to where we left off with history (the Greeks), then moving forward we will include the BiblioPlan along side with our SL stuff.

It isn’t just the BiblioPlan Ancients that we are using as our refresher, but the Holman Bible Atlas, and the Dorothy Mills book set: The Book of the Ancient World (reader, student, and teacher books).  It does get a bit redundant having three sources, but we are finding there is unique information in each book.

I am working on a funky blanket, with lots of colors, and left-over yarns.  It is either very interesting or very ugly...can't decide which, that is why there is no photo of it!!!

Dd's Valentines Gifts- Walking With Frodo-- 2015

Dd's Valentines Gifts- Walking With Frodo-- 2015

For any other LOTR fans, I thought I'd share some good finds for Dd for her Valentines gifts.  She was super excited about these LOTR items and actually started reading The Gospel According to Tolkien aloud to us on the drive to church this morning!  For my Dd to do that, shows just how excited she was (not normal for her!)!  So, I thought other people might be interested in what I found at Christianbook.com.

The Gospel According to Tolkien: Visions of the Kingdom in Middle-earth - By: Ralph C. Wood

Tolkien and Lewis were good friends, so it seems fine to share both items on the same post!

"LOTR" means Lord of the Rings, referring to the series of books Tolkien wrote.  We are also big Narnia fans, and really enjoyed: A Musical Tribute to C.S. Lewis.

Core G Week 8"E" LOW Feb 9-13, 2015

Many Thanks to Heather, for our card and gifts!!

Core G, Sonlight
Week 8 “E”
LOW (Left-Over’s Week)/ Light Week!
Feb. 9th-13th, 2015

These are the gifts Dd rec'd from the "L" family!

After a few really studious weeks, we (*I*) needed a really light week.  The past few weeks we have really pushed our limits of being hard working, which is good to do when one is snowed in and can’t get out much.  Our studious winter weeks make up for our much looser schedule when the sun is shining! Some weeks we look almost "too studious" and it probably looks like we work too hard; but I assure you we have our LOW/Light weeks that we need for some R&R.

We still had reading left to do in our last three Greek books; and did manage to complete those—phew!  We worked a little each day, but managed to allow lots of getting NOTHING done!  I had such high hopes for making lots of Valentines gifts and cards; and didn’t manage to get any of that done!  I really seemed much more unproductive than Dd—who was quite the busy beaver!

Dd worked all week on my Valentines gift—a beautiful tea pot cozy, with pretty yarn flowers on top.  She also finished the blue bird she had previous started and gave that as a VD gift too.  Dd made pancakes twice this week, the second time I helped with the skillet so I could try out Coconut Oil.  Heather “L” had encouraged me to try it out, and I finally went online and read up on it, enough to feel comfortable cooking pancakes with it!  I’ve requested a cookbook from the library that focuses on coconut oil too, to continue to learn more about it.  It did taste GREAT with the pancakes, and Dd went right to using it as body and face lotion for herself.  She already uses olive oil, and was excited to try another natural lotion.

Mini-Updates:
The weather---as I write this it is 5 degrees with wind chills going down to -10 to -35. On 2-15-15, and it is -8 degrees, not wind chill!  We have broken records with how cold it is!  We have snow, snow, and gusting snow!  There were closings all over the bottom of the tv screen all day today!

Our house in Indiana---still not sold, but we had three or four showings scheduled for 2-14-15...praying they go super well!

Dh's job----He is doing crazy hours right now, but as of this week he has a team of nine employee's---and more to come, which should help his hours eventually to come down.  He is still much happier and hopeful here.  The company is coming up on some serious deadlines in the next 30-60 days; which are a make them or break them deal...prayers appreciated.

Snails---our lovely snails are doing super well!  Dd has really decreased feeding them, and it seems to be helping on the smell.

No outings this week, we were, in my opinion, "snowed in"---not literally since my Dh did drive to work each day, but I was not encouraged to drive and tempt fate!  I need to grow more bravery!

Kendra said she liked to see our home made schedule sheets, so I've been putting some up for her, and other visual people to see our general items.  I don't always do a great job jotting down everything we have done, but I get about 3/4th of our stuff down.  This week I really didn't even try to keep track, I was being a very un-motivated person this week!  I wrote out our assignments last weekend and we used that as our guidelines.

The poncho Dd made for herself (but, I keep borrowing it!)

Dd's gift to me for Valentine's Day

BUSY Hands:

She kept busy!  She completed the poncho she had been working on these past few weeks, and it looks great!  Then she went to work on her Valentine’s gifts.  She spent many hours in her room with the door closed working on things!

Dd made me a tea cozy for my teapot!  Just like the kind Heather L. makes!
