Apologia General Science Experiment 3.3 What Does Soap Do To Water? Part 1

Apologia General Science
Experiment 3.3
What Does Soap Do To Water? Part 1
**Surface Tension**
First step to any good experiment....find the kitty!  Good, now we can begin!

First get all the ingredients....

Large bowl, water, and ground a bunch of pepper in the water.  Some big pieces fell to the bottom, and the rest covered the surface of the water.

Putting the empty tweezers in the water is our "CONTROL" for this experiment.  Dd put tweezers in the water...no reaction (as we figured).

We put a wad of tissue and used the tweezers to dip the tissue into the pepper water...no reaction, no movement.

The instructions told us to add more pepper...we did.

Dipping in a wad of chewing gum...no reaction.

Dipping in soap....

The pepper immediately skirted to the far sides of the bowl!  It was a very quick response.

We tried another type of soap for the fun of it, but the pepper was already off to the side.

Agnes!
