Week 13 "A"
(our 42 week)
June 15-19th, 2015

This week we signed our new loan, and put down money on our new house.  Dh took one day off this week to get the many errands done that needed to be done.  We both now have Michigan licenses, and titles for our cars!  After a year of living here we are finally getting some of the basic things switched over.  I spent hours packing up our apartment library--and took three loads of it to our storage place.  When we met with our realtor to sign the loan he said that *perhaps* the previous owner would be out of the house before the date that he had given us.  First, he said that we could move in on June 19th, then due to the loan not getting made he said June 27th, now he told our realtor he *might* be out by Sunday June 21st? So far we haven't heard from anyone that he is done, but we are hoping he will be done soon.  But, I've packed up a lot of our stuff, and we are antsy to start working on our new home.

Our house in Indiana had two showings on Saturday!  We have had over thirty showings at our house, and eventually someone will want to buy it!  Please continue to pray for our house to sell!  There will be a few days this month that we will be paying on three houses/apartments at the same time!  Three places were we could sleep; as Dh likes to say!  He thinks that is funny!  I'm looking forward to only having one place!  and it being really quiet and peaceful!

Our lessons this week went well.  We finished Hostage Lands by Douglas Bond, and our Story of the World, Vol. 1, and Activity Pages and Tests that went with it.  This is a good place to stop and focus on our move for a few weeks.  Dd has been getting more and more into her FUN books, and wanting to focus on that for a while---which is great, and she can do that for the next few weeks as I focus on packing and unpacking.  She helps me, but she can't work for hours on end like I can.  She does good for being thirteen.

Psalm of the Week:
Psalm 103

Psalm 103

Of David.

Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The Lord works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people of Israel:
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
    nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10
he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
11
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love for those who fear him;
12
as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13
As a father has compassion on his children,
    so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14
for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
15
The life of mortals is like grass,
    they flourish like a flower of the field;
16
the wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.
17
But from everlasting to everlasting
the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children
18
with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.
19
The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.
20
Praise the Lord, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding,
    who obey his word.
21
Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.
22
Praise the Lord, all his works
    everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the Lord, my soul.

Hostage Lands by Douglas Bond: finished book!

Product Description (rainbow resources' book description):

This exciting book by Douglas Bond has two stories in one. The background story is of an apathetic Latin student in modern England. He has no desire to learn Latin until he discovers an ancient Roman manuscript buried on his family farm. The main story is the one that this student translates from Latin into English, an adventurous story from the third century. It tells of a centurion who serves Rome at Hadrian’s Wall and is saved from being massacred by a Celt named Calum. Calum was deeply changed when he saw Christians martyred in the Roman Colosseum and tries to overcome the usurpation, treachery, and betrayal of his day. A gripping, fast-paced historical novel that not only tells about ancient Rome, but shares about God’s divine intervention and mercy. 236 pgs, pb.

Ancients Sonlight Curriculum Core G Week 13 June 8th-12th, 2015

Ancients
Core G
"Week 13"
June 8th-12th, 2015
41 weeks on this core, so far
Check out the cheeks on this chipmunk!

A pretty good week.  This was a Story of the World week, for our history study.  We went over the decline of the Romans---again.  With our BiblioPlan: Ancients; Augustus Caesar's World, Famous Men of Rome,  Mystery of History, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, and now-lastly with Story of the World we are re-hearing the story of the declining Romans.  I have to say, with so many books and/or resources saying the same thing; with varying details, we are really absorbing our history facts.  I think we will be pretty sharp on our Ancient history facts...at least I hope so!!!

Some highlights from this week---our apartment complex finally opened the pool and Dd was totally intent on swimming as often as she could.  After Tuesdays two hour swim-fest, Dd woke up on Wednesday with a horrible ear ache!  She was totally miserable, and needed a very light day to recover.  I was really surprised to see her get such an ear ache, for that isn't normal for her.  But, it could be that it was her third day in a row!

Dh and I had a "fun" excursion back to our storage compartment, to look through all the stacks of boxes for a "Files" box that had our car titles inside.  After all the digging, we did find the title for my car, but not his.  I remember last June that I paid for our Indiana new tags--thinking how I was going to be getting Michigan tags quickly and we would be wasting our money.  Because, you know, I was absolutely CERTAIN that our house would sell, and we would be in our new house in **three months!!**  I am so glad I can laugh at myself, because here it is June again and I still have my Indiana tags on my car, and they are soon to expire!  I still just am amazed at how odd this whole process has been!  I just know the Lord must have a very specific family in mind to buy our house, and He must be turning off all the hearts of the people that have looked at our house.  He is holding our house open for someone special!  The bank took SO long to get our loan processed, and that means that we will have to wait another two weeks before we can buy & move into our new "Spruce" house and leave this apartment behind.  Dh is extremely disappointed at this new turn of events.  Dd and I are also disappointed, but not as bad as Dh....he is really ready to move!
Dd makes a mean potato salad!  Super tasty!

Busy Hands this week:
Dd has make a wonderful cake and icing from scratch.  She made some awesome potato salad.  She made herself (twice) and me (once) her famous sunny-side-up eggs and toast.  I'm sure I am missing more of her cooking, because this was a cooking week!  She just wanted to be in the kitchen every day.  I love that she loves to cook!  I am NOT a good cook; but am getting better as I get older.

Psalm of the Week:
Psalm 123
Psalm 123

A song of ascents.

I lift up my eyes to you,

to you who sit enthroned in heaven.

As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,

as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he shows us his mercy.
Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,

for we have endured no end of contempt.

We have endured no end

    of ridicule from the arrogant,
    of contempt from the proud.
This is "my page", and Dd gets her own sheet with all her independent work listed on it.

Leaf of the Week: Failure!!
We could not find this tree in our book!  I am sure it is our fault, that it is in the book, but that we are unable to correctly assign it to the right tree!  But, in science, sometimes you get it right, and sometimes you fail!  We failed this week!

Here is a close-up of the leaves

Here is the bark

Another close-up--we went back twice to help identify it.

But, on the bright side---we hadn't been able to figure out which tree was producing all the ''white fluff'' that has been flying all around.  We figured it out this week--it is the Eastern Cottonwood that is doing it:
